Cycling route: Hortiatis-Kissos-Mersinouda-Triadi-Thermi-Kalamaria
DATE TO BE ANNOUNCED
The departure point is from our depot at Papakiritsi Street in Kalamaria, Thessaloniki (see map below).
RETURN: 16.30 approximately (NB: RIDE BACK TO KALAMARIA BY BIKE)
TOTAL DISTANCE: 35 kms approx.
Our ride will begin from just below the summit of Mt Hortiatis. The scenic route will take us through oak forest, then crossing upland meadows we will have great views to the Thermaikos Gulf. On the way we will pass by the abandoned Ottoman village known as ISENLI. Its original inhabitants left for Turkey and Greek refugees from Asia Minor moved in and renamed the village to Mersinouda. Sadly the village was totally abandoned in 1927. We eventually reach Triadi lake where we will stop for our picnic on its shores. We then continue our ride back to Thessaloniki via Thermi and Kalamaria.
• Transport by bus Kalamaria – Mt Hortiatis (return by bike)
• Transport of bikes by trailer
• Service/support vehicle
Our route is generally level with some some short elevations and longer downhill rides. We will follow mostly dirt roads in fair condition, though in parts there is some mud and a rough surface. There will be several stops for viewing, a light breakfast and picnic snack. Duration of the ride is approximately 6-7 hours and covers a total distance of about 35 kms.
Reservations possible once date is announced.
